potentiometry

Potentiometry is a scientific technique used to measure the electrical potential (voltage) between two points in a solution without drawing current. This potential difference reflects the concentration of specific ions in the solution. For example, a pH meter uses potentiometry to determine acidity by measuring the voltage between a special electrode and a reference electrode. This method is widely used because it provides a quick, accurate way to analyze chemical compositions, especially in solutions like water, beverages, and biological fluids, by translating electrical signals directly related to ion concentrations.
