Posterior vitreous detachment

Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) occurs when the gel-like substance inside the eye, called the vitreous, separates from the retina at the back of the eye. This is a common condition, especially in older adults, and often happens as part of the natural aging process. Symptoms may include floaters or flashes of light. While PVD itself is usually not serious, it can increase the risk of retinal tears or detachment, which require medical attention. Regular eye check-ups are important to monitor eye health and address any issues promptly.
