Portrait of Wally

"Portrait of Wally" is a famous painting by Austrian artist Egon Schiele, created in 1912. It depicts a woman, Wally Neuzil, a model and Schiele's muse. The artwork gained notoriety due to a legal battle involving its ownership. In the late 20th century, the painting was displayed in a New York museum, but it was claimed by the heirs of a Jewish art dealer who lost it during the Holocaust. This case highlighted issues of art restitution and the legacy of wartime looting. Eventually, the painting was returned to the rightful heirs in 2010.
