porcelain making techniques
Porcelain making involves several key techniques. First, a mixture of kaolin clay, feldspar, and quartz is prepared. This blend is shaped into desired forms, often through molding or potter’s wheel techniques. The shaped clay is then dried and fired in a kiln at high temperatures, usually between 1,200°C to 1,400°C, which vitrifies the clay, making it hard and non-porous. After the first firing, decorative glazes can be added, followed by a second firing to achieve a smooth, durable finish. This process results in the fine, translucent quality characteristic of porcelain.
