Populist Party

The Populist Party, also known as the People's Party, was a political movement in the United States during the late 19th century, primarily active in the 1890s. It aimed to represent the interests of farmers and laborers who felt neglected by the major political parties. The party advocated for government reforms such as income tax, coinage of silver to increase money supply, and regulation of monopolies. Their goal was to challenge powerful corporations and ensure economic fairness for ordinary Americans. Although it declined by the early 1900s, its ideas influenced later progressive reforms.
