Pontic Steppe

The Pontic Steppe is a vast grassland region stretching across southeastern Europe and western Asia, mainly in Ukraine, southern Russia, and parts of Moldova. It features open plains with grasses and few trees, making it ideal for animal grazing and nomadic herding. Historically, this area was a critical crossroads for migrations, trade, and the spread of cultures and technologies. Its openness facilitated the movement of peoples such as the Indo-Europeans and later played a key role in the development of several ancient civilizations and nomadic cultures.
