Pongo abelii
Pongo abelii, commonly known as the Sumatran orangutan, is a species of great ape native to the forests of Sumatra, Indonesia. They are intelligent, highly social mammals known for their reddish-brown hair and strong arms, which they use to swing through trees. Sumatran orangutans are primarily solitary but come together for breeding and mothers caring for their young. They mainly eat fruit, leaves, and bark. Because of habitat loss and poaching, they are critically endangered, making conservation efforts essential to protect their populations in the wild.
