Pompey's Theatre

Pompey's Theatre was an ancient Roman amphitheatre located in Rome, built around 55 BCE by the politician Pompey the Great. Unlike traditional Roman theatres, it was a large, outdoor arena that hosted various entertainment events such as political gatherings, theatrical performances, and gladiatorial contests. Its design combined architectural elements from Greek theatres with Roman innovations, making it an important example of Roman entertainment architecture. The theatre was part of Pompey's larger complex, which included a garden and portico. Although largely destroyed by fire and later repurposed, the site remains significant for understanding Roman social and entertainment practices.
