Polygenic Risk Score

A Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) is a number that estimates a person’s genetic likelihood of developing a certain disease or condition. It’s calculated by analyzing many small genetic variations across the genome, each contributing a tiny bit to the overall risk. By combining these variations, the PRS provides an overall picture of genetic predisposition. It’s important to remember that a high or low score doesn’t guarantee whether someone will or won’t develop the condition; it simply indicates relative risk compared to others. PRS is mainly used to help guide personalized prevention and early intervention strategies.
