Polish Jewish community
The Polish Jewish community has historically been one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish populations in Europe, with roots dating back over a thousand years. It has contributed significantly to Poland’s cultural, religious, and economic life, developing rich traditions in Yiddish language, Hasidic spirituality, and scholarship. Despite facing periods of persecution, including the Holocaust during World War II that almost annihilated the community, many survivors and descendants continue to preserve Jewish heritage and practices in Poland today. The community remains an important part of Poland’s diverse history and cultural landscape.
