Polar deserts are extremely cold regions near the Earth's poles that receive very little precipitation, mainly in the form of snow. Despite the name "desert," they aren't hot; rather, their dryness results from low moisture levels. These areas, such as parts of Antarctica and Greenland, have barren, icy landscapes with minimal plant or animal life due to harsh temperatures, strong winds, and limited moisture. Their unique conditions make them some of the most extreme environments on Earth, characterized by persistent cold and scarcity of nutrients necessary for most forms of life.
