Polar desert

A polar desert is a cold, dry environment found in regions near the North and South Poles. Despite their icy appearance, these areas receive very little precipitation—comparable to desert regions—not because they are hot, but because the cold air holds less moisture. The landscape is often covered with ice and snow, with limited plant and animal life adapted to extreme conditions. Examples include parts of Antarctica and the Arctic. These regions are characterized by their desolate, treeless terrain, long and harsh winters, and minimal precipitation, making them similar to deserts in dryness but not in temperature.
