plot devices

Plot devices are techniques or elements used by writers to advance the story, enhance themes, or develop characters. They can include tools like foreshadowing, which hints at future events; flashbacks, which provide background information; or cliffhangers, which build suspense. Other plot devices might be the "MacGuffin," an object that drives the plot despite its inherent value, or the “red herring,” a misleading clue designed to distract from the real issue. Each device serves to engage the audience, create tension, or deepen understanding, ultimately shaping the narrative experience.
