Planum temporale
The planum temporale is a region in the brain located on the upper part of the temporal lobe, near the auditory cortex. It plays a key role in processing language and sounds. In most people, this area is larger on the left side of the brain, which is associated with language abilities. Its size and structure can vary among individuals and are linked to language skills and certain neurodevelopmental conditions. Essentially, the planum temporale helps us interpret speech, understand sounds, and is foundational for language comprehension.
