A planing hull is a type of boat design that enables vessels to glide over the water's surface at higher speeds. Unlike traditional displacement hulls, which push water aside and are more efficient at slower speeds, planing hulls utilize a flatter bottom shape to create lift. This allows the boat to rise up on top of the water when it reaches a certain speed, reducing water resistance. As a result, planing hulls are favored for recreational boats, speedboats, and some military vessels, as they offer improved speed and maneuverability compared to other designs.
