Plan of Ayutla

The Plan of Ayutla was a political movement in Mexico aimed at ending President Antonio López de Santa Anna's government in 1854. It was led by opponents who wanted to restore constitutional government and reduce Santa Anna's power. The plan declared that Santa Anna's presidency was invalid and called for new leaders to establish a more democratic and fair government. It gained widespread support, ultimately leading to Santa Anna's resignation and paving the way for political reforms. The plan was a key step toward Mexico's transition toward a constitutional democracy.
