Plan B (emergency contraceptive)
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive pill designed to reduce the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It typically contains a higher dose of a hormone called levonorgestrel, which can prevent or delay ovulation, interfere with fertilization, or make it harder for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. It is most effective when taken as soon as possible within 72 hours (3 days) after the incident. While not an abortion pill, it is intended for emergency use and not a regular form of contraception. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
