Phyllobates terribilis
Phyllobates terribilis, commonly known as the golden poison frog, is a small, brightly colored amphibian found primarily in Colombia. Notable for its vibrant yellow skin, it produces a potent toxin called batrachotoxin, one of the most toxic substances known. This toxin can cause paralysis and even death if ingested, making the frog extremely dangerous to predators. Surprisingly, they acquire this toxin from their diet, specifically from certain insects. Despite their toxicity, these frogs are crucial to their ecosystem and are often studied for their potential medical applications.
