Phreatic cave

A phreatic cave is a type of underground cave formed when water fully saturates the rock, creating a highly dissolved environment. Over time, the flowing, mineral-rich water enlarges fractures and cavities within soluble rock like limestone through chemical erosion. These caves develop below the water table, resulting in smooth, rounded passageways and chambers. They are characterized by their continuous water-filled passages, often with a network of tunnels. Phreatic caves reveal insights into subterranean water systems and geological processes, serving as important natural formations for study and exploration.
