Philistines
The Philistines were an ancient people known for settling along the coastal region of present-day Israel and Gaza around the 12th century BCE. They are often portrayed in the Bible as adversaries of the Israelites, notable figures being Goliath, the giant killed by David. The Philistines were skilled in metalworking and trade, contributing to their prosperity. Their culture included distinctive pottery and architectural styles, and they established five city-states: Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, Gath, and Gaza. The term "Philistine" has also evolved in modern usage to describe someone uninterested in culture or the arts.
