Philippine Commonwealth
The Philippine Commonwealth was a transitional government established in 1935 as a step toward full independence from the United States. It allowed Filipinos to govern themselves with their own constitution while still under U.S. sovereignty. The Commonwealth provided an opportunity for Filipinos to develop their political, economic, and military institutions. It also aimed to prepare the nation for independence, which was eventually granted in 1946. During its existence, the Commonwealth faced challenges such as World War II, but it laid important groundwork for the country's sovereignty and national identity.
