Pheidippides (myth)
Pheidippides was a legendary Greek messenger associated with the Battle of Marathon (490 BCE). According to the myth, after the Greek army defeated the Persians, Pheidippides ran approximately 26 miles from Marathon to Athens to deliver the news of victory. He is said to have collapsed and died from exhaustion upon delivering the message. This story inspired the modern marathon race, symbolizing endurance and heroic effort. While historical details are debated, the tale highlights the importance of communication and determination in times of crisis.
