Phantoms (psychology)
In psychology, "phantoms" often refer to phantom sensations or phantom pain, which occur when individuals perceive sensations in a body part that is no longer there, typically after amputation. Despite the absence of the limb, the brain continues to send signals that result in the feeling of pain or other sensations in that area. This phenomenon highlights the complex relationship between the brain, body, and our sense of self, illustrating how our neural pathways can retain memories and sensations of lost body parts.
