PETscan

A PET scan, or Positron Emission Tomography scan, is a medical imaging test that helps visualize how tissues and organs function. It involves injecting a small amount of a radioactive substance, called a tracer, into the body. This tracer emits signals that a special camera detects, creating detailed images of metabolic activity and blood flow. PET scans are commonly used to detect cancer, evaluate brain disorders, and assess heart conditions by showing areas of high or low activity. The procedure is non-invasive, and the images provide valuable information beyond what standard x-rays or MRIs can reveal.
