Persian Satrapies
Persian satrapies were administrative regions in the ancient Persian Empire, established to help manage its vast territory. Each satrapy was governed by a satrap, or governor, who acted on behalf of the emperor. This system allowed for local governance while maintaining control over diverse populations. Satraps collected taxes, enforced laws, and supported the Persian military. The satrapy system was effective in promoting stability and facilitating communication across the empire, which stretched from the Mediterranean to India, helping to maintain Persian influence for centuries.
