Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection
Peripheral blood stem cell collection is a procedure to gather healthy stem cells from a donor's bloodstream, often for transplantation. First, the donor receives medication to increase stem cell production and release into the blood. During the collection, blood is drawn from one arm, processed through a machine that separates out the stem cells, and the remaining blood is returned through the other arm. The collected stem cells can then be used to treat certain blood cancers or disorders, helping to rebuild healthy blood cell production in the recipient’s body.
