Performing rights organizations

Performing Rights Organizations (PROs) are organizations that manage and protect the rights of artists and songwriters. When music is played in public—like at concerts, restaurants, or on the radio—PROs collect royalties on behalf of the creators. They ensure that artists are fairly compensated for their work when it’s performed or broadcast. PROs also provide licenses to venues and businesses, allowing them to legally play music while ensuring that the revenue is distributed to the creators. Examples of PROs include ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC in the United States.
