Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device (PVAD)

A Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device (PVAD) is a minimally invasive medical device used to support the heart’s pumping function during severe heart failure or emergencies. It is inserted through a small blood vessel, usually in the groin, and can help pump blood from the ventricle (main heart chamber) to the rest of the body. PVAD provides temporary assistance, easing the workload on the failing heart, allowing it to rest or recover. It is often used in critical situations or as a bridge while preparing for more definitive treatments like surgery or transplant.
