People's Republic of Poland
The People's Republic of Poland was the official name of Poland from 1952 to 1989, during its time as a communist state aligned with the Soviet Union. After World War II, Poland became a socialist republic under Soviet influence, characterized by a one-party system controlled by the Polish United Workers' Party. The period saw significant industrialization, but also economic challenges and political repression. The regime faced growing opposition, notably from the Solidarity movement in the 1980s, which ultimately led to democratic reforms. In 1989, Poland transitioned to a parliamentary democracy, adopting the name Republic of Poland.
