People's Power Revolution
The People’s Power Revolution in the Philippines, also known as the EDSA People Power Revolution, was a peaceful mass movement in 1986 that ended Ferdinand Marcos’ authoritarian rule. Citizens and military members, united by a desire for democracy and an end to corruption, gathered at Edsa (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) in Manila. Through nonviolent protests and civil disobedience, they pressured the government to step down. Marcos fled the country, and a new democratic government was established, marking a significant shift toward political freedom and restoring citizen participation in governance.
