People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs
The People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs was a government agency in the Soviet Union responsible for managing its international relations and diplomacy. Similar to a modern foreign ministry, it handled negotiations, established treaties, and represented the USSR abroad. Established after the October Revolution of 1917, it played a key role in shaping Soviet foreign policy during the early years of the Soviet state, overseeing interactions with other countries, communist movements, and international organizations until it was renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1946.
