Peace Treaty of Tartu

The Peace Treaty of Tartu, signed in 1920, was an agreement between Soviet Russia and Estonia, ending their conflict over Estonia's independence. It recognized Estonia's sovereignty, established borders, and included provisions for trade and diplomatic relations. The treaty marked Estonia’s official recognition as an independent nation after years of struggle following World War I. It also helped stabilize the region by resolving territorial disputes, allowing Estonia to develop as a recognized independent state for the next two decades.
