PD-1 Inhibition
PD-1 inhibition is a cancer treatment that helps the immune system attack tumors. Normally, PD-1 is a protein on immune cells that, when engaged, silences immune responses to prevent overactivity. Cancer cells can exploit this by producing signals that activate PD-1, hiding from immune attack. Drugs called PD-1 inhibitors block these signals, reactivating immune cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells. This approach helps the immune system better target tumors, offering new hope for certain cancers that were previously difficult to treat.
