Paul Bogle

Paul Bogle was a Jamaican national hero and leader of the 19th-century anti-colonial independence movement. Born in 1822, he fought for justice and better working conditions for enslaved and marginalized people in Jamaica. Bogle is most famous for leading the 1865 Morant Bay Rebellion, which aimed to challenge oppressive government policies and secure rights for oppressed communities. Although the rebellion was suppressed, Bogle’s efforts highlighted social injustices and helped inspire future movements toward independence. He is remembered as a symbol of resistance, courage, and the fight for justice in Jamaican history.
