Paul Bert

Paul Bert was a French physiologist and aeronautical pioneer, known for his research on the effects of altitude on the human body. Born in 1833, he became the first person to recognize the dangers of low atmospheric pressure, particularly in deep-sea diving and aviation. His work laid the groundwork for understanding decompression sickness, commonly known as "the bends." Bert also contributed to the study of gas laws and was involved in early experiments with balloons. His insights have had lasting impacts on medicine, aviation, and safety protocols for pilots and divers. He passed away in 1886.
