Patrick Steptoe

Patrick Steptoe was a British gynecologist and pioneer in the field of reproductive medicine. He is best known for his role in developing in vitro fertilization (IVF) alongside his colleague, Bob Edwards. In 1978, they achieved a breakthrough by successfully helping to create the first "test-tube baby," Louise Brown, which transformed infertility treatment and allowed millions of couples to conceive who otherwise could not. Steptoe's work significantly advanced reproductive science, and he remains a key figure in discussions about fertility treatments and the ethical implications of assisted reproduction.
