Pathway to Citizenship

Pathway to Citizenship is the process through which a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) can become a U.S. citizen. Typically, it involves meeting residency requirements—often five years of continuous presence—demonstrating good moral character, passing an English and civics exam, and attending an interview. Some categories, like spouses of U.S. citizens or refugees, may have shorter or different requirements. Once approved, applicants take an oath of allegiance, officially granting them U.S. citizenship, which provides rights like voting and protection under laws.
