Pathological Gambling

Pathological gambling, also known as compulsive gambling, is a behavioral addiction where an individual has an uncontrollable urge to gamble despite negative consequences. This condition can lead to significant financial, emotional, and social problems. Unlike occasional gambling, those with pathological gambling may prioritize betting over other crucial aspects of life, leading to distress and dysfunction. Symptoms include increasing bets to feel excitement, feeling restless when not gambling, and lying to hide the extent of their gambling. Treatment often involves therapy, support groups, and sometimes medication to help manage compulsive behaviors and regain control over one’s life.
