Passive-matrix OLED (PMOLED)
Passive-matrix OLED (PMOLED) is a type of display technology used in screens like smartwatches and small devices. It consists of tiny organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) that light up when powered, creating images and text. In a PMOLED, a grid of rows and columns controls the pixels, with an external circuit turning specific pixels on or off. Because each pixel is controlled individually, PMOLEDs are simple and cost-effective for small screens, but they consume more power and have slower refresh rates compared to other OLED types. They are ideal for devices where simplicity and lower cost are priorities.
