Parathyroid Carcinoma

Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare cancer that affects the parathyroid glands, which are small glands located near the thyroid in the neck. These glands produce parathyroid hormone (PTH), crucial for regulating calcium levels in the body. When cancer develops, the glands can produce too much PTH, leading to high calcium levels, which can cause serious health issues like kidney stones, bone pain, and fatigue. Diagnosis often involves imaging tests and surgery, and treatment typically includes removing the tumor and surrounding tissue. Unlike more common types of cancer, parathyroid carcinoma is challenging to treat and may require ongoing management.
