Palmiro Togliatti

Palmiro Togliatti was an influential Italian politician and a key figure in the Italian Communist Party (PCI) during the 20th century. Born in 1893, he played a crucial role in shaping post-World War II politics in Italy, advocating for a moderate, electoral approach to communism. Togliatti was instrumental in promoting a strategy of cooperation with socialists and democratic forces, aiming to integrate communism into the Italian democratic fabric. His leadership helped the PCI become one of the largest communist parties in the West, and he served as party secretary for many years until his death in 1964.
