Palace of Knossos

The Palace of Knossos, located on the island of Crete, is an ancient Minoan archaeological site dating back to around 1900 BC. It is considered one of the earliest examples of advanced architecture in Europe, featuring multi-story buildings, elaborate frescoes, and advanced drainage systems. The palace is linked to the legend of the Minotaur and the labyrinth, reflecting its cultural significance. Knossos served as a political, religious, and economic center of the Minoan civilization. Excavations, notably by Sir Arthur Evans in the early 20th century, revealed its grandeur, making it a key site for understanding ancient European history.
