Pacific salmon
Pacific salmon are a group of five species native to the Pacific Ocean and its rivers, known for their life cycle called anadromy. They hatch in freshwater streams, migrate to the ocean to grow and mature, then return upstream to spawn and die. This cycle can take several years, during which they undergo physical changes. They are vital for ecological balance, providing food for many animals and supporting local fishing industries. Salmon also contribute nutrients to freshwater ecosystems when they return to spawn and decompose, enriching the environment for other aquatic life.
