Ovonramwen Nogbaisi
Ovonramwen Nogbaisi was the Oba (king) of Benin, now part of modern-day Nigeria, during the late 19th century. He ruled from 1888 until 1897, a period marked by tensions between the British colonial powers and the Benin Kingdom. His reign ended with the British invasion in 1897, which resulted in significant destruction, including the looting of cultural artifacts. Ovonramwen was eventually exiled, symbolizing the clash between traditional African leadership and European colonial expansion, highlighting themes of resistance, cultural heritage, and the devastating impact of colonization on African societies.
