OSS (Office of Strategic Services)

The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was the United States' first covert intelligence agency, established during World War II in 1942. Its main role was to gather intelligence, conduct espionage, and support allied forces in European and Asian theaters. The OSS utilized a range of tactics, including sabotage, psychological warfare, and direct action missions. After the war, it played a crucial role in shaping modern intelligence operations. In 1947, the OSS was disbanded, and its functions were absorbed into the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which continues its legacy in U.S. intelligence and national security operations.
