Oropharyngeal cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the oropharynx, which is the part of the throat located behind the mouth. This area includes the base of the tongue, the tonsils, and the walls of the throat. It often presents symptoms like a persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing, or changes in voice. Smoking, heavy alcohol use, and the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection are common risk factors.
