Organization of African Unity (OAU)

The Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established in 1963 to promote solidarity among African nations, enhance cooperation, and address political and economic issues. Its main goals were to support independence movements, foster unity, and prevent conflicts. The OAU was instrumental in advocating for decolonization and combating apartheid. In 2002, it was replaced by the African Union (AU), which expanded its focus to include economic development, democracy, human rights, and addressing contemporary challenges. The OAU and its successor, the AU, represent significant efforts towards African self-determination and collaboration.
