Oreochromis mossambicus
Oreochromis mossambicus, commonly known as the Mozambique tilapia, is a species of freshwater fish native to southeastern Africa. It belongs to the cichlid family and is known for its adaptability to various aquatic environments, including lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. The fish is characterized by its silver-gray body, sometimes with a pinkish hue, and can grow up to about 40 centimeters (16 inches). It is popular in aquaculture and fishing due to its hardiness, fast growth, and diet flexibility. The Mozambique tilapia plays an important role in local food supplies, but in some regions, it can become invasive, impacting native aquatic ecosystems.
