Order of Santiago

The Order of Santiago is a medieval Catholic military and religious order founded in Spain around the 12th century. Its members, called knights, combined martial duties with spiritual commitments, particularly involving the defense of Christian territories and pilgrimage routes, notably toward Santiago de Compostela. The order was dedicated to Saint James (Santiago), the patron saint of Spain. Over time, it also played a significant role in promoting religious, military, and charitable activities. Today, the Order continues as a secular organization focused on cultural and charitable work, maintaining its historical heritage and traditions.
