Optic Neuritis
Optic neuritis is an inflammation of the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain and is crucial for vision. This condition often causes sudden vision loss, blurred or dimmed vision, and sometimes pain, especially with eye movement. It can occur on its own or be associated with multiple sclerosis or other neurological disorders. The exact cause is often unknown, but it may involve an autoimmune response where the body mistakenly attacks the optic nerve. Diagnosis usually involves a medical exam and imaging tests, while treatment may include corticosteroids to reduce inflammation.
